Appearing On Radio Scotland’s ‘The Radio Cafe’

We’ll be appearing on ‘The Radio Cafe’ today (24th of February 2010) to talk about Burnistoun with Janice Forsyth. The show is on Radio Scotland at 1:15pm and I think we’re first up. Robert will also be discussing his love of musicals.

Spoon At King Tut’s In Glasgow

Is that a hand on my arse? The person behind me is really close but we are at a gig. Still, that feels like a hand on my arse cheek. Not a groping hand, just a resting hand. A hand that might have ended up there by mistake but should really have moved on by now. It’s difficult to tell through my denims but it feels like it could be the back of a hand rather than a palm. Somebody walking past with an armful of beers breaks the contact behind me and I never find out for sure just what it was that spent those few valuable moments with my arse in a tightly packed room.

Robert and me went to see Spoon at King Tut’s on Sunday night. The first couple of songs were a bit like a sound check but they quickly clicked into gear and put on great gig.

We were treated to the first ever live performance of the lovely ‘Out Go The Lights’ from their new album ‘Transference’ as they switched between the new stuff and their most popular stuff.

It’s brilliant (for a change) to see a band live when they’re still at the height of their creative powers. How more people in this country don’t know about Spoon is a mystery and a tragedy and some other completely over the top word that I can’t think of right now.

Will Arnett In Arrested Development

I’ve been working my way through my box set of the brilliant Arrested Development and I’m continually blown away by Will Arnett’s performance as Gob. The show has a cracking cast but he in particular is amazing. He’s unbelievably funny. His performance stands alongside the very best sitcom performances that I’ve ever seen. I don’t have a definitive list written down but, off the top of my head, I’d go for these as my own personal favourites.

Leonard Rossiter as Rigsby in Rising Damp

Ronnie Barker as Fletcher in Porridge

Jeffrey Tambor as Hank Kingsley in The Larry Sanders Show

John Cleese as Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers.

Harry H. Corbett as Harold Steptoe in Steptoe and Son.

There’s no doubt a few others that will spring to mind after I write this but I think Will Arnett is up there with those heavyweights.
